Use these references to move a .wsp file for a site to a different site collection. This process can take a few hours and requires Visual Studio.

Open the .wsp file, get the onet.xml file, and remove features that prevent the .wsp file from working on the destination site.

You <can> edit the onet.xml file for a web template–just not for a site definition. For web template onet.xml files, you can remove the features out of the onet.xml file for the web template.
